Press Release

Michael Rosenfeld Gallery is pleased to present the group exhibition Spiritual by Nature, featuring a selection of works by artists directly inspired by the natural world and informed by Eastern thought and spirituality. This exhibition will include the work of Ruth Asawa, Mary Bauermeister, William Baziotes, Lee Bontecou, Beauford Delaney, Claire Falkenstein, Alfred Jensen, Norman Lewis, Richard Pousette-Dart, Theodore Roszak, Charles Seliger, Toshiko Takaezu, Lenore Tawney, Alma Thomas, Mark Tobey and Charmion von Wiegand. Working across a range of media and drawing on personal aesthetic vocabularies, these artists strove to find a universal language to express their singular visions of the world at large. Eight of the artists on view are currently represented in Artistic License: Six Takes on the Guggenheim Collection at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, NY. Artistic License is the first-ever artist-curated exhibition mounted at the Guggenheim and the inclusion of these artists is a testament to their continuing relevance and impact.
